When love calls, will the heart answer?
To be up front, this is the first that I have read of this series. That being said, it could be a stand alone but if I would have started at the beginning, I may have felt more of connection. Not that I did not.. when the matters of the heart are in play, you can always find a connection.
Set in Old West-Jessica and her mother have arrived at their new home to their new family. In all this, Jessica has a attitude that has been built from a hurtful past. A past of insecurity and rejection. Now that her father has passed away; her and her mother must make a new start with a new family, she struggles to belong. Finding a new friend who accepts her and shares with her a faith in God, she begins to see what community means. Ellen has a daughter and her cousin Cole that is a traveling preacher. Cole has his own struggles and because of that judges Jessica harshly.
It is in this tension that Jessica begins to change and when a tragedy strikes, her true colors come out and she is faced with trusting God or lose what matters.
It reflects the struggle we have with faith and trusting God and how other people are so important as we work out our faith. A sweet read.
