The Mountain MidwifeThe Mountain Midwife by Laurie Alice Eakes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

He had never felt the lack of the knowledge until meeting this woman who seemed to draw some kind of strength from her heritage.

Hunter McDermott has found out that he is not who he thought he was after the heels of rescue that was caught on youtube and brought him instant success. Hunter is a successful engineer, a man who cares about the world. His world suddenly comes to a standstill when he receives a phone call that his sister is in danger. A sister he didn’t know he have. After confronting his parents, he goes to the Appalachian Mountains in seeking answers. It is there he meets Ashley Tolliver the local midwife who may have the answers that he seeks. Ashley is turmoil to leave the mountains she loves to further her education to be a doctor. In helping Hunter find his roots, she ends up finding her roots as well.

This novel had a thread of mystery, romance, and good ol lessons about what is important. Ashley has a borderline martyr complex but it paints a picture of how one tries to control and where there is no control. This is a Christian novel with a lesson on pride and seeking what truly motivates us even when what we do is a good thing.

A Special Thank You to Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
