Missing Pieces by: Heather Gudenkauf

Missing PiecesMissing Pieces by Heather Gudenkauf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another secret uncovered, another crack in her marriage appeared. Missing pieces of the strange puzzle hovering just beyond her reach.

After many years of marriage, the raising of two twin daughters, Sarah and Jack Quinlan are going back to his boyhood home. Sarah and Jack have never visited his home due to the death of his parents and the painful memories that it brings back, however, when Jack’s aunt takes ill and the family requests that he comes home, all that Sarah knew about Jack unravels.

It will be difficult to say too much about the plot without giving it away so I will address is the plot believable. Can a spouse hide a terrible secret from his childhood with giving anything away? How does spouse respond when the pieces become unraveled? Does she want to believe the best even when he shuts down on her? Does she fight for her marriage? How you answer these questions will determine if you will love or hate this read. Did I get annoyed with Sarah? You bet I did. But I also appreciated how she worked thru the lies and finding the truth. Did I think Jack was a jerk? You bet I did. But fear is a very real thing and it can be difficult to reconcile.

I am a big fan of Heather Gudenkauf and this was different from her other books in narration. It grabs you with the murder of a woman you have no idea who she is or her story and ends with twist and the question…why do people go into the basement in the house of horrors?
